MiraCosta’s Dance Arts Ensemble leaps into action to celebrate our rich dance heritage and diversity with “Shapes and Reflections 2007.” The show is choreographed by MiraCosta faculty and a few selected advanced students and will be directed by MiraCosta instructors Trisha Hanada-Rogers and Dave Massey.
This exciting performance of ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop, ballroom and world dance forms features both classical and contemporary dance styles. The show includes music from Emile Waldteufel, Edit Piaf, Rogue Wave, Michael Jackson and more and will showcase various genres including Asian fusion, thrash jazz and others. Students performing in “Shapes and Reflections” are from all over San Diego County and represent a diverse age range.
All of the students performing in Shapes and Reflections have been part of choreography classes at MiraCosta College. This year's show features the following students:
* Anna Egorova, a graduating dance major, has choreographed two pieces: a whimsical, playful solo, “Catch a Ladybug,” to music by Alexei Aigi and a group piece featuring seven dancers, “Dawn Breaks at the Lake Balaton,” which will be a modern folkloric dance with influences from Yugoslavian folk dance. Music is by Vittorio Monti.
* Samantha Garabedian, dance major, choreographed “Hands” with music by Jewel. This piece is an interpretive lyrical jazz piece for four dancers.
* New dance major, Megan Mosley, choreographed “Let Go” to music by Frou Frou. This piece is an up-tempo athletic fluid modern dance piece for seven dancers.
* New dance majors Kritzia Lara and Mia Mogavero choreographed “BYOB” to music by System of a Down. This is a hard rock piece for six dancers and includes jazz and hip hop styles.
* New dance major, Krista Burt, choreographed a duet, “All We Leave Behind,” to music by Mat Kearney. This piece features influences from Vienese waltz, Argentine Tango, and Rumba.
* Amanda Dial choreographs “Doin’ It Well” to music by Jennifer Lopez. This piece is for a group of six dancers and has MTV style jazz dance piece with clever group formations
